First half
Barca made a poor start to the game, seemingly struggling with the new formation and trying to find the best position to attack, while Valladolid gave Barca the ball and tried to threaten the counter. However, the home team could not be intimidated in any way and Lionel Messi slowly began to defend them as the game progressed.
There was nothing special about Barca's style of play, but he managed to create good chances and scored twice in the first half: at first it was Clement Leglett who found himself alone in the box. He made a brilliant cross from Macy, then went home to Martin Braithwaite. Inside the box, the striker showed his mettle and reached the score sheet after a great pass from Messi and a shot from Sergio Dust.
Jordi made a great pairing in the first half to prevent Messi from joining the scoring party, and at half time Barca was playing solid football and winning easily.
The other half
Valladolid came out strong in the second half, put high pressure and attacked more and forced Mark Andre Tier Stergen to save some quality, but Barca wrapped up the game after just 20 minutes with a beautiful goal: Frankie D. Jong found a place in the middle. And he got it to Pedri, who hit Messi with a great back heel pass and the captain finished a great triangle with a great finish.
With a three-goal lead and just 30 minutes away from the Christmas break, Barca slowed down and Ronald Koeman decided to rest some players and not take any major risks as the team raced.
